Penryn Park is a golf course and country club in Port Hope, Ontario, a town east of Toronto along Lake Ontario.
The exterior was used as Kingsport Ladies College in Anne: The Sequel, and the interiors were used for Anne’s classroom at the college, and the Old Lloyd House in Road to Avonlea. The exterior of Margaret Lloyd’s house is also located in Port Hope, and several other Road to Avonlea scenes were filmed in downtown Port Hope.
In the commentary for Anne2, Sullivan says:
“This was shot in Penryn Park in Port Hope. It’s a wonderful Gothic mansion that we’ve used numerous times as a girl’s school, in some other productions that we’ve done as well.
The house was built in the 1850s and is a great example of what was referred to at the time as Victorian strawberry architecture.
Strawberry hill was one of the first locations where this style of architecture first made it’s way into the lexicon of revival architecture.”
