About the Book

Mistress Pat 1935

First published in 1937 by McClelland and Stewart.

Jane of Lantern Hill is the story of eleven-year-old Jane Stuart. Physically and emotionally trapped with her sweet, spineless mother in her grandmother’s Toronto mansion, Jane discovers her true self when she visits her father one summer in Prince Edward Island. Between the delights of keeping house on her own, reading poetry and history with her clever father, and masterfully solving her friends’ problems with her own logic and humour, Jane Stuart longs for her parents to reunite.

It has also been adapted as a television movie in 1990.

L. M. Montgomery had begun a sequel for Jane, tentatively called Jane and Jody, before her death.
