Kilmeny of the Orchard is a love story featuring wealthy, young college graduate Eric Marshall and the beautiful, mute Kilmeny Gordon with whom he falls in love.
Kilmeny of the Orchard was readapted from Una of the Garden, which Montgomery had written and published as a magazine serial. (See Creation and Publication). Upon publication, Kilmeny of the Orchard was instantly popular.
