The Golden Road describes the adventures of a group of early teenage cousins on the King family farm. Told in retrospect by the boy Beverley King, winter, spring, and summer continues, enlivened by the Story Girl’s tales. Changes and newcomers in the Carlisle community bring exciting adventures to the friendship circle of Bev, Felix, Dan, Felicity, Cecily, the Story Girl, Peter and Sara Ray.

The Story Girl and The Golden Road were adapted by Kevin Sullivan for the popular 1990s television series, Road to Avonlea.

The Golden Road is the sequel to The Story Girl.
